The ageing BabyBoomers (born 1946-70) have now all moved into the lower-spending, lower-earning Perennials 55+ demographic.
These Perennials are now the main source of population growth in the world, and in almost all of the major economies. As a result, maj0r changes are taking place in demand patterns:
- Markets are polarising between Value and Luxury. The highly profitable Middle Market of ‘Affordable Luxury is fast disappearing
- 20 years of central bank stimulus has created vast over-capacity in many industries.
- Debt levels have risen to record levels, and it is unclear how this debt can all be repaid
- Geopolitics is replacing economics as the key driver for decision-making
These developments create major challenges for companies and investors as the landscape becomes more complex and uncertain.
